Private Scottish Castles Tour Itinerary
* Note: Because this is a private tour, the exact route is customisable. Here is an example of what your day could look like!
Morning: The Scenic Coastal Drive & Dunnottar Castle Let me pick you up directly from your hotel or cruise ship in Aberdeen. We will leave the city behind and drive toward the rugged Scottish coastline to arrive at one of the country's most striking and iconic ruins: Dunnottar Castle. Perched high on a dramatic rocky outcrop surrounded by the crashing North Sea, this cliffside palace complex is breathtaking. As we explore the ruins, I will share the fascinating history of the Keith clan and the famous, thrilling story of how the Scottish 'Crown Jewels' were smuggled out of the castle to be hidden from an invading army.
Mid-Day: Banchory Town & The Leaping Salmon Next, we leave the coast and take a short, scenic drive inland to the lovely Highland town of Banchory. Here, we will visit the dramatic Falls of Feugh, where (depending on the season) you can witness wild Atlantic salmon leaping up the rushing waterfalls! For lunch, we will stop at a highly recommended local cafe to sample authentic Scottish cuisine—perhaps a warming bowl of Cullen Skink or some traditional Haggis Bon Bons. (Note: We are always happy to accommodate special, plant-based, and religious dietary requirements!)
Afternoon: Royal Deeside & Crathes Castle After lunch, we drive deeper into the beautiful countryside of Royal Deeside. Our destination is one of the most superb fortresses in Scotland: Crathes Castle. With its fairytale pink-harled exterior, this 16th-century tower house is an absolute must-see. We will explore the remarkably preserved historic interior before taking a stroll through its world-famous walled gardens, which are a true paradise for nature lovers.
Late Afternoon: Return to Aberdeen Having spent a wonderful afternoon exploring Royal Deeside and taking plenty of photos, we will begin our relaxing drive back to Aberdeen, ensuring you arrive safely at your hotel or back at your cruise ship with plenty of time to spare.
