This year I have done many ancestry tours with International guests mainly from USA and Australia. We have been on a pilgrimage together to see where their ancestors lived and farmed the land in rural Aberdeenshire.
Guests from America who were related to Clan Fraser, visiting Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire.
This lovely Mother and Son duo had flown into Aberdeen from the States with one thing on their minds….they had to see Castle Fraser! Luckily for them, they had found a real “Fraser” (me! Nicola Fraser) to show them around and what a fun day we had together, sharing stories and enjoying each other’s company. Perhaps we were related down the line in some very small way!
The next day they wrote me a lovely review and said “it was an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives!” I meet such lovely folks doing my highland journeys!

This lovely gentleman (below) flew in from Australia and wanted to see where his ancestors farmed the land in rural Aberdeenshire. He was on a very personal journey and had been researching his family tree for many years.
His great, great, great, great grandfather farmed land near Fyvie and Turriff. Using his very detailed maps, we managed to find most of the farms. Some were very derelict as expected, but some were in good condition and we were able to speak to the present day farmers.
His ancestors also farmed on the slopes of Bennachie Hill, so a wee climb up my favourite hill was on the cards, and then we had a well-earned lunch in the fab Garioch Heritage Centre cafe in Inverurie.
An email from David the next day, expressed his thanks for making his tour such a memorable occasion and wanted to thank me for being part of his journey/pilgrimage that he was on!
